POOR WORK PERFORMANCE

Montego Pet Nutrition is committed to supporting all employees in achieving and maintaining satisfactory performance standards. Poor work performance refers to an employee’s failure to meet the reasonable and communicated standards required for their position, despite adequate training, guidance, and resources.
1. Expectations
Employees are expected to:

Understand and perform the key duties of their role as outlined in their job description.

Maintain consistent quality and productivity levels.

Follow instructions, policies, and procedures applicable to their role.

Demonstrate the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies for their position.
2. Identifying Poor Work Performance
Poor work performance may include, but is not limited to:

Repeated failure to meet set targets or deadlines.

Consistent errors or low-quality work.
-
Inability to follow work procedures despite training.
-
Lack of required job knowledge or skills.
-
Failure to adapt to reasonable changes in the role or workplace requirements.
3. Procedure for Managing Poor Work Performance
Where concerns arise, managers will follow a fair process in line with the Employee Relations and Disciplinary Guidelines, which may include:

Initial Discussion – Informal counselling to highlight concerns and provide support.

Performance Review – Setting clear performance standards and timelines for improvement.
-
Guidance and Support – Providing training, coaching, or mentoring where needed.

Formal Action – If no improvement is made, a formal poor performance enquiry may be held. Outcomes may include a verbal warning, written warning, or final written warning.

Termination – As a last resort, employment may be terminated following due process under the Labour Relations Act.
4. Employee Rights
Employees have the right to:

Be informed of the specific performance concerns.

Receive reasonable guidance, training, and an opportunity to improve.
-
Respond to any allegations of poor performance.
-
Be accompanied by a fellow employee or trade union representative during formal proceedings.
